Technical Overview

A restriction orifice is a precisely designed differential-pressure device used to reduce pressure or restrict flow in a piping system

Precision Pressure Control Solutions

Unlike an ordinary measuring orifice, a restriction orifice is used to deliberately reduce system pressure or limit flow. With 35 years of accumulated design know-how, Daehan Instruments achieves cavitation prevention, noise reduction and minimal erosion.

  • Single-stage and multi-stage designs available
  • Prevents cavitation and flashing
  • Noise controlled below 85 dBA
  • Optimized for critical flow conditions
  • Custom bore design and manufacture
  • Compliant with ASME B31.3 Process Piping code
Restriction Orifice Products

Product Types

Restriction orifice solutions optimized for the application and operating conditions

Single Stage Type

The most basic form, reducing pressure with a single orifice; an economical solution for low-to-medium differential pressures.

  • Pressure drop ratio up to 0.5
  • Simple & Economical Design
  • Minimal maintenance
  • Standard flange connection

Multi-Stage Type

Where a large pressure drop is required, the pressure is reduced in several stages to effectively control cavitation and noise.

  • 2–6 stage pressure drop
  • Effective cavitation prevention
  • Minimized noise level
  • Long-term durability

Multi-Hole Type

A special multi-hole design that splits the fluid into many small jets to minimize noise and vibration.

  • Up to 200-hole design
  • Uniform velocity distribution
  • Reduced vibration and noise
  • Suitable for high-velocity fluids

Cage Type

A cylindrical cage structure disperses the fluid through 360 degrees, ensuring stable performance even under extreme conditions.

  • 3D fluid dispersion design
  • Suitable for ultra-high pressure
  • Replaceable cage
  • API 526 compliant

Variable Type

A variable design that lets the orifice size be adjusted as operating conditions change, allowing flexible operation.

  • Manual/automatic adjustment
  • Turn-down ratio 10:1
  • Real-time flow control
  • DCS integration available

Critical Flow Type

Maintains sonic flow conditions to guarantee a constant flow rate regardless of downstream pressure changes.

  • Choked flow design
  • Flow stability ±0.5%
  • Independent of downstream pressure
  • Precise flow control

Design Formulas

Key formulas for precise pressure drop and flow calculation

Pressure Drop Calculation

ΔP = K × (ρ × V²) / 2

K: resistance coefficient, ρ: fluid density, V: velocity

Bore Sizing

d = √(4Q / (π × Cd × √(2ΔP/ρ)))

d: orifice bore, Q: flow rate, Cd: discharge coefficient (0.61–0.65)

Cavitation Index

σ = (P2 - Pv) / ΔP

P2: downstream pressure, Pv: vapor pressure, ΔP: pressure drop
