The CONDENSATE POT is used for measuring steam or highly condensable gases as follows.

1) For steam, since the steam temperature exceeds 200 °C, it is used when the steam must be condensed to a liquid before measurement. The condensate is therefore sealed in between the POT and the instrument in advance. However, if the steam temperature is below 200 °C, a TEE and PLUG alone are sufficient when the transmitter is a diaphragm-type force-balance differential-pressure gauge.

The CONDENSATE POT is used lying horizontally so as to ease condensation of the measured medium and minimize volume changes in the wetted part of the instrument, thereby enlarging the contact area of the condensate.
The CONDENSATE POT is mounted within 45° above horizontal from the tapping nozzle so that condensate above a certain level returns to the main pipe, with the high- and low-pressure sides at the same level.
